Urban Forestry
Lily Leaves is greening Nepal’s urban areas through the Miyawaki method, an internationally recognized ecological restoration technique developed by Japanese botanist Dr. Akira Miyawaki. Diverse native species are planted at high density, creating forests that grow up to 10 times faster than traditional plantations.
These dense urban forests improve biodiversity, absorb carbon dioxide, reduce urban heat, improve air quality, and provide habitat for birds, butterflies, insects and other wildlife. Former dumping sites along the Bishnumati River, the sacred grounds of Swoyambhu and community land in Kirtipur and Lalitpur are now growing into living forests.
